Floods in Punjab (2025)

In August September 2025, Punjab experienced its worst floods in nearly four decades—triggered by unusually heavy monsoon rains in the catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, and high inflows/release from dams like Bhakra, Pong, and Ranjit Sagar.

Over 1,900 villages across 23 districts were affected, with more than 3.5 3.9 lakh people impacted and approximately 48 lives lost. Croplands spanning about 3 lakh acres were damaged, especially in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Pathankot and other border districts.

In response, the government declared the state disaster hit, stepped up rescue operations, relief camps, and initiated measures for better forecasting, geo fencing of water bodies, and elevation mapping to mitigate future flood risks.

In support of efforts for those affected by the floods, SBA donated via the Mercy Relief Pakistan-India Floods 2025 response fund. SBA is also proud to highlight one of its members, LTC (Ret’d) Mejar Singh Gill, personally joined the relief efforts and has been at the forefront of those bringing aid to the flood affected areas of Punjab.
