About SBA

Supporting Sikh-owned businesses to thrive through collaboration, resources, and mentorship.

Our History

The history of the Sikh Business Association (SBA) in Singapore harkens back many decades, when the small island nation was establishing its economic footing in an evolving global landscape. Registered with the Registry of Societies on 12th August 1932 as the Singapore Sikh Moneylenders Association, the association officially began with 25 founding members. Sardar Sundar Singh (also known as Racha Singh) was the association’s first president.

In the 1980s/1990s, the association began to include Sikh businessmen from other industries and was renamed the Sikh Moneylenders and Businessmen Association. The association emerged as a platform for Sikh entrepreneurs to network, collaborate and contribute to Singapore's progress. During this period, the association settled on the name the “Sikh Business Association”, which stands till today.

Beyond business, the SBA has been instrumental in promoting philanthropy and social responsibility among its members. Through various initiatives, including charity drives and community outreach programmes, the association has made a positive impact on the lives of those in need and contributed to the broader welfare of society.

As Singapore continues to evolve as a global business hub, the Sikh Business Association remains a vital force in the entrepreneurial landscape.
